Headsets are very important gear for a pilot. During may private training, I didn't use a headset. I had hard time to listen my instructor.
When I use it for the first time, I felt like "Woo! How quiet it is!" Without it, IFR is not possible.
I have David Clark H10-60 for a long time. I like it very much. Though it is not an active nise cancelation, it works very good. And it didn't give me any trouble, mechanical and electrical for more than 10 years.
Some students use cheap one like Flightcoms. It works OK in the bigining but after 50 hours, the microphone can not pick up the voice well. ATC will say "Your transmission is very weak, say again."
If you are going to fly very often and longer, it's better to pay little bit more and actually, it saves the money.
If I have much money, I will buy Bose headset.

Latest model is "AviationX". It cost more than $900! but it's good! Silent, quiet, easy on your head, less fatigue. You can consentrate on flying more. It's fun.
That is my dream headset. It is in my wish list.
